We know that effective strategies to improve outcomes for children include engaging parents and carers.
School professionals are experts in children’s education, adult educators are expert in adult and family learning. The project brings those two sets of professionals together to create awareness raising and training materials on how best to involve adults in effective ways in the education of their children.
We are piloting adult and family learning opportunities within areas identified as having multiple deprivation and using the results of our pilots to create the awareness raising and training materials. These materials will then be available to adult and family learning workers, attainment officers, teachers and other professionals.
As a result of our project, children’s learning will be better supported by their parents/carers and the professionals involved in children’s education will be confident and effective in engaging parents and carers.
What we will do:
At the conclusion of the project we will have a new Awareness Raising Information Pack with a training programme included in it.
Learning Link Scotland runs professional learning opportunities for adult and family learning organisations and we will include the Awareness Raising Training in our programme, increasing collaboration between schools and family learning organisations.
We aim to distribute the pack through our networks involved in family learning, these include Attainment Advisors, Area Officers, the Adult Learning Strategic Forum, Family Learning Working Group, Education Scotland’s Family Learning Network and Community Planning Partnerships.
We will take our project evaluation to the European Agenda Adult Learning (EAAL) Impact Forum for Scotland to discuss the impact adult and family learning has on attainment with the view of developing a strategic approach to effective parental engagement.
In delivering the project partners will further promote and protect the rights of children and young people, consistent with the requirements of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
If you would like more information about the project then please contact Jackie Howie firstname.lastname@example.org
The membership form is also available as a Word document in case you would prefer to apply by email or post. The form is very brief and won't take much time at all.
